An exceptional C19th butcher’s block prep table with a stunning undulating top from years of being pounded by a butcher’s mallet, as well as the imprint of deep ridge knife marks. The top sits above two deep drawers with brass cup handles and beautifully turned gadroon fluted legs. There are two knife holder, one that sits at the end of the table and the second on the back gallery.
It’s hard to believe that such an elegant piece of furniture was produced for a mere butchers shop, if only our present day shops could still look like that.
Would make a fabulous console in an entrance hall or kitchen. I think this is my favourite piece so far this year.
